## Phantom010 (Mar 9, 2009)

Do you get this error message only after opening Internet Explorer 7 or it will also happen with other programs on your computer?

If only in IE7, check the following:

1. Within Internet Explorer select Tools > Internet Options.
2. Select the Advanced tab.
3. Tick the option "Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer)".
4. For the setting change to take effect close down all Internet Explorer windows and restart.

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

I clicked it off.
It The Int Exp worked for about 10 mins.

then same problem.

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

It lasted for about 10 minutes then the runtime error came back and shut it down. This only happens on the Int Exp program.

I clicked the "Disable ....." off and then "OK: and shut icomputer down. Was I supposed to save?

----------

## Phantom010 (Mar 9, 2009)

You didn't have to turn off your computer, only Internet Explorer.

Now try Internet Explorer again to see if you still get the same error.

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

I did both. I can use the Internet Explorer for about 8-10 min then the same message and shut down occurs. We are getting closer but not quite there.

----------

## Phantom010 (Mar 9, 2009)

Try running IE7 without the add-ons. To do so, right-click on the desktop IE7 icon and choose the option to "Start Without Add-ons".

If no luck, open your Internet Explorer 7 Options. Select the Advanced tab and click on "Reset".

Also, delete all your Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and Browser History.

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

Tried both. Now it seems worse. The message came up almost instantly. Also got some sort of page from Microsoft about getting their software.

What software?

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

It was to Save and reinstall but MSN.com came up. I think this is a way for Microsoft to control my opening page. I hate having MSN, I did have Google as an opening page. Now I am stuck with MSN. This also happened last week when this whole problem started.

I need to get back to that google as my basic page.

----------

## Phantom010 (Mar 9, 2009)

> I need to get back to that google as my basic page.

Well, that's easy to do.

Simply go to Google. Then, open your Internet Explorer options. Under the General tab, click on *Use current*.

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

Tried that but the current is msn.

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

I got that problem fixed. I typed in Google and got the right page now. Still have the runtime error problem.

----------

## Phantom010 (Mar 9, 2009)

I think you should click on the *Report* button and kindly ask a malware removal expert to assist you. You may have malware causing this issue.

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

Ok

Thanks

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from *Here*.

Double Click *mbam-setup.exe* to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to *Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware* and *Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware*, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "*Perform Quick Scan*", then click *Scan*.
The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click *OK*, then *Show Results* to view the results.
Make sure that *everything is checked*, and click *Remove Selected*.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart. (See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy and paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:

*If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.*

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

So how do I get to the MBAM log tab.

Remember I am an idiot in this computer stuff.

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

Across the top you will see tabs for Scanner, Protection, Update....etc. There is one for Logs there.

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

I deleted the email that I think was sent that started this whole mess. In looking at my Junk emails I think I still have it. would it do you any good to get it?

----------

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

No, you can go ahead and delete the e-mail please.

Please visit *Combofix Guide & Instructions * for instructions for installing the recovery console and downloading and running ComboFix.

The only thing different from the instructions there is that when downloading and saving the ComboFix.exe I would like you to rename it to Combo-Fix.exe please.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that along with a new HijackThis log.

Important notes regarding ComboFix:

ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making it the default browser. This can easily be changed once we're finished.

ComboFix also prevents autorun of ALL CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you, please let me know. This can be undone manually when we're finished. Read *HERE * for an article written by dvk01 on why we disable autoruns.

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

Go to Control Panel - Add/Remove programs and remove:

*Registry Easy v5.6*

This is a rogue program but besides that, I don't recommend running registry cleaners as they can do more harm than good to a system.

Now delete this file and folder, if they still exist:

c:\windows\Tasks\*Schedule Task Weekly.job* ---> file
c:\program files\*Registry Easy* ---> folder

How are things now?

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

Could you give me the proceedure to remove? I again admit I am a real dummy in this stuff.

Thanks

Go to the Control Panel and click on Add or Remove Programs and the list will populate with all the programs you have installed. Click on the Registry cleaner program and then click on remove. Reboot the machine afterwards.

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

I have done that and rebooted. It is not there in the listing now.

Am I correct that we are complete?

I want to thank you so very much for all the help you have provided.

I appreciate your tolerance of my ignorance of computers and what I am sure are very stupid questions

Thankyou!!!!!!!!!!!!!

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

You're quite welcome.

Would you please post a final HijackThis log?

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

Here it is. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

Did you have trouble getting McAfee to work at some point or connecting to get updates? Although it's a trusted site, there should be no need to have it in the trusted zone.

Did you follow my previous instructions?

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

I had some problems with it, yes. Is there something I can do to make it work better.
In my last email it had the listing you needed.

I thought I did everything you told me to.

----------

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

You could try uninstalling and reinstalling it but if you're not having any problems now then it's probably best to leave things the way they are. I'm just not a fan of having things in the trusted zone.

Go to *start *- *Control Panel* - Display Properties - *Desktop *- *Customize Desktop *and click on the Web tab.

Select everything listed there (except for "My current home page") and click on *Delete*.

Click OK and on the next screen click *Apply*.

Rescan with HijackThis, close all other browser windows, place a check mark beside the following entries and then click on "Fix Checked".

*O24 - Desktop Component AutorunsDisabled: (no name) - (no file)*

Reboot and post a new HijackThis log please.

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

Here it is. For some reason your email on Wed didn't come up.

So I went back and checked for responses.

Let me know what you think

I'm sorry about the delay and wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten you. I've had connection problems for several days and wasn't able to get on-line at all. It will probably take me a few days to catch up so I will post back here as soon as I can with further instructions.

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

No Problem. I understand. I have troubles with the electronic gremlins all the time.

Thanks I will wait for your instructions.

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

Here is a copy of the latest log. When I delete that 024 it seems to create problems with Mcafee. I got a message that I was't completely covered by them. So I am running a scan and anticipate issues. I am going to have them look at it.

Let me know what you think,

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

Are there any problems remaining?

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

Not that I know of Thankyou very much.

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

My problem is now resolved with some great help. Thanks to all.

----------

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

Here are some final instructions for you.

*Follow these steps to uninstall Combofix and all of its files and components.*

 Click *START* then *RUN*
Now type *ComboFix /u* in the runbox and click *OK*. Note the *space* between the *X* and the *U*, it needs to be there.

Now you should turn system restore off to flush out all previous system restore points, then turn it back on and create a new restore point:

To turn off system restore, on the Desktop, right click on *My Computer* and click on *Properties.*
Click the *System Restore* tab.
Check *Turn off System Restore.*
Click Apply and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

To create a new restore point, click on *Start* – *All Programs* – *Accessories* – *System Tools* and then select *System Restore*.

In the System Restore wizard, select *Create a restore point* and click the Next button.

Type a name for your new restore point then click on Create.

I also recommend downloading *SPYWAREBLASTER* for added protection.

*Read here* for info on how to tighten your security.

***

You should trim down your start-ups (these show as the 04 entries in your HijackThis log) as there are too many running. You can research them at these sites and if they aren’t required at start-up then you can uncheck them in msconfig via Start - Run - type msconfig click OK and then click on the start-up tab.

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

In trying to install Combofix /u, it asked to disable the Total Protection Service. However the TPS won't allow me to disable the Browser protection or the Security center. Will that be an issue?

Also, is there a date to use on the restore? Should it be say now?

Thanks

----------

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

That shouldn't be a problem.

When creating a system restore point, you don't need a date, you just give it a specific name. If you need to restore back to this point you will easily be able to identify it.

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

I tried to do that and it says Windows cannont find ComboFix /u

It says to open then run and search, I can browse but do not find it.

I am sure I did something wrong previously when it said that it would be in conflict with the Total Protection Service.

Let me know what you think.

thanks

----------

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

Try running the command to remove ComboFix with the name it was renamed to:

Combo-Fix /u

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

Sorry,

Same message came up in trying Combo-Fix /u

No luck.

----------

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

Then just drag it to the recycle bin and delete the ComboFix folder please.

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

Easy for you to say.
Remember I am not good at this stuff.

How do I do that?

----------

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

I see you didn't install ComboFix on your desktop as instructed. You will have to navigate to the following file:

c:\documents and settings\Rob Lund\My Documents\*Combo-Fix.exe*

Hold the left-click down on the file and drag it to the recycle bin on your desktop.

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

Combo Fix is in the recycle.

What is next?

----------

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

That should be it.

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

I tried to do the start run combo fix and can't do it. So we are done?

Thanks again for all the help.

----------

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

Yes, you mentioned that before and that's why I suggested you drag it to the recycle bin instead.

----------

## Studerob (Sep 14, 2009)

Then I guess we are done.

Again thank you for all you have done. I sincerely appreciate it.

----------

## Cookiegal (Aug 27, 2003)

It's my pleasure.
